This phone packaging was created to target the elderly and arthritic generation. The elderly often have difficulty using and appreciating new technologies targeted towards a younger more change averse generation.
Extensive Research was conducted into existing models of phones, needs of the elderly, issues associated with muscle strain and arthritis to create a design that recognized both the needs and desires of the elderly.
The resulting design was packaging created with a tab and pop out system that allowed as little hand movement as possible, only requiring movement from opposable thumbs (the easiest movement for the arthritic). The aesthetics and structure was created as a gift set so that the packaging may be bought for a loved one (the elderly usually receive phones as gifts). It uses natural and warm materials creating a surprise when opened and engaging the poetic side of the recipient through story telling.
Packaging size was reduced to essentials assuming reduction in unnecessary packaging materials that are usually present.
